Emotionally we are feeling sorry for Tono and maybe some are hating Akari for her decision but logically we all know she made a good decision, for herself.Īnd I believe this is particularly applicable since, following a breakup, it is common for one person to go on while the other is left behind.Īside from these individuals, a lady is also depicted in the film, albeit she is given little screen time. If she didn’t allow herself to go on, she’d be locked in the past, making herself unhappy like Tono. And, in the end, we saw that she was enjoying a happy life with a fiancé. ![]() She decided to move on and concentrate on the present rather than dwell on the past. She adored him, but when she realized he wasn’t looking at her the way she looked at him and that he was searching for something else, she opted to keep silent with a sorrowful heart and didn’t reveal her emotions or bother him, instead, she simply sobbed and cried alone for the entire night and slept tearfully. I loved the way how she managed her emotions at such a young age in such a powerful and mature manner. He is so lost and stuck in his past that he entirely overlooks the present, and he didn’t realize it, but he’s also hurting those who are attempting to love him. He sometimes dreams of Akari and himself watching the sunset together, and he has even developed the practise of sending messages to no one. His calmness on his face, despite the fact that he was filled with sadness and emptiness on the inside, was infuriating. The plot centers on our main character, “Takaki” and his mental suffering after falling apart from his childhood lover(Akari). Now I’m assuming you have already seen this anime movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a go. And leave you with a sense of emptiness and sorrow. If you enjoy watching movies in which everything works out in the end and everyone lives happily ever after, then my friend, you may have a difficult time digesting the finale of this film because it will smack you with the harsh truth. I’m certain that you’ll identify with at least one of the characters in this film. I appreciate how filmmaker “Makoto Shinkai” addresses today’s generation’s common difficulties, such as moving on, heartbreak, one-sided love, and getting ignored by the favourite person. The movie is shown in phases of episodes (total of three episodes), and I want to tell those who haven’t seen it yet to “have some patience”, because, during the first phase, especially non-anime watchers, you might think “what I’m watching is some sort of normal kids love story,” but wait until the end. And their love struggles against fate, time, and distance. The story focuses on three major characters: TAKAKI, AKARI, and KANAE. The most realistic, relevant, and mature romance genre movie I’ve ever seen. I enjoy movies that leave the conclusion up to the viewer’s perception, thus this one absolutely meets my requirement. “5 cm per second” is one of the great anime movies given by “Makoto Shinkai” to the world.
